About Me

Hi I'm Bryan!

I'm an MD student and AI tinkerer based in Melbourne, Australia. I do research at the tight-knit Monash Medical Technology Lab, directed by A/Prof Khoa Cao and am working on AI projects with Monash Health and Alfred Health.

Here are some of my favourite reads.

Currently:

  • Intermitting med school to do my BMedSc(Hons). My thesis is focused on the application of RAG systems in healthcare.
  • Working to bring smarter guideline search to hospitals, automate clinical dataflow, and improve the clinical reasoning of our current AI models.
  • Will be visiting Stanford/SF March-Sep 2025.

    • I built a RAG-LLM system to address the overwhelming volume of clinical practice guidelines within Victoria's largest public health organisation. This project aims to streamline access to over 5,000 clinical guidelines for over 15,000 clinicians at more than 250 health services. Our prototype model was recently awarded seed funding from the Monash Institute of Medical Engineering, with plans to deploy over 2025.
    • Significant manual effort is required for hospitals to track clinical quality and contribute to registries. I'm collaborating with Alfred Health to build an AI system which automatically extracts quality management metrics and clinical registry submissions from EMR data.
    • The benchmarks we have to measure AI clinical reasoning don't do medical practice justice. I'm working to develop a suite of tools to more accurately and comprehensively measure realistic clinical performance.
